Southwest KC Minor Hokey Association (SWKC) was formed as a not-for-profit organization resulting in fundraising being essential to maintain and grow the organization. Fundraising also provides the benefits of increased awareness to our families that they are an integral part of our community. Participation in fundraisers helps to generate funds for our organization and keep registration costs down.
As hockey registrations fees cover the cost of game time ice, it is the responsibility for all Minor Hockey Associations, including SWKC, to raise funds to provide practice ice time. As mandated by Hockey Canada all minor hockey teams must have a minimum of twenty practices resulting in approximately 160 practices, not including Initiation, for SWKC.
Each year, Southwest KC hosts a Parent Appreciation Pub Night & Silent Auction Fundraiser. The purpose of this event is to recognize the dedicated efforts of our hockey families with a fun and relaxing evening out. This is paired with a fundraising opportunity in the form of a Silent Auction to help support and continue the extraordinary programs and activities offered by our organization.
As part of Charitable Gaming sanctioned by Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commissioning (AGLC), SWKC has joined the list of not-for-profit organizations who have been granted the opportunity to volunteer at a casino in Edmonton. AGLC provides organizations with a 2-day session at a local casino where volunteers are required to help facilitate the operations. Each not-for-profit organization is provided with a casino every 18-24 months which provides significant fundraising for the organization. Our last Casino was held on April 13-14, 2019. We anticipate our next Casino date will be held in the second or third quarter of 2021.
